Raised Boxes Part 2

March 2025 Work Party

When it comes to community gardens and West Coast weather, sometimes you just need to let your timelines slide. We’d aimed to complete our new raised garden boxes in the October 2024 but some very wet wether had other plans for us (staying inside!) With the arrival of Spring, we welcomed Rosina back to guide us through finishing our boxes.

First the ground was levelled, as best we could. The four boxes built in September were arranged and two additional boxes built.

Our original plans were for 7 raised garden beds but unfortunately we had to forgo one. Two of the challenges our garden faces are invasive trees (and their roots) and the dead hedges that boarder our garden. As result two boxes were placed parallel to the hedges due to the ground slop. This takes up more space but we think they look rather nice just the same!

We also wanted to make sure that there was more space around the boxes to make them more accessible. Some of the older boxes are very close together which makes navigating the space a challenge.

Early in April we were back out to line the boxes and now we are eagerly waiting soil and compost delivery!
